One in four people will suffer from mental illness at some point in their lives – The Depressed Cake shop will provide a unique (& delicious cake) platform on which to discuss mental health issues (with a focus on depression), whilst at the same time raising valuable funds for mental health charities. We’re also actively seeking sponsors for this charity event…
The symptoms of depression can be complex – and vary widely – and so will our cakes. But as a general rule, if you are depressed, you feel sad, hopeless and lose interest in things you used to enjoy. The professional and hobby bakers contributing work to this event will be creating cakes that visually represent this… For example barely decorated cakes or cookies will communicate how depression can affect your ability to work, the grey & dull consistent color scheme that all fun can disappear from life. Remember they may look sad but inside each will be bursting with flavour and colour.

Very excited to share more information about the anatomical heart pop up in London for Valentine’s Day. Indicative of the way Eat Your Heart out has become a cultural leader, the shop is 60% gifts and art 40% cakes and chocolate treats. It’s being run under the guise of Anatomical Snuff Box, a venture from myself and Emily Evans promoting the education of anatomy using cultural channels. You can see all of the gifts here (more being added daily). The wonderful Kraken Rum are also supporting the event so expect lots of free rum shots and rum soaked cakes – if you have not tried this amazing drink yet here is your chance.
So if I had to pick my predicted ‘top sellers’ it would be the amazing crochet hearts from Kate Jenkins who is an INCREDIBLE textile artist. I have been a fan of hers for years so it’s really humbling she know thinks enough of ‘Miss Cakehead’ to create some bespoke pieces for our shop. Kate has also produced a range of tea towels and cards featuring the pieces so her work is affordable for all.
There’s also this cocktail sharer from Bespoke Barware which I predict will be a top seller for them all year round. I will most certainly be buying one for starters!
Truth is there are so many amazing anatomical heart offerings but I don’t have time to share them all right now, but whatever your taste there is sure to be something here for you… All the details you need to know are below:
So last night we opened The Helpers – a experiential experience serving cocktails and cake all themed around the movie of the same name – a stunt for Koch Media. The creations were incredible and (never thought I would say this) we pushed the limits so far we are all looking forward to some pretty cake projects for Valentine’s Day and beyond. You can see all the cakes over on Miss Cakehead’s Facebook page, and them featured on This Morning here. Just bear in mind they were for a horror film so they are made to the brief set by our client Koch Media. We have not just lost our minds and started making really dark cakes. In fact the chocolate gun was so disturbing and realistic we gave it as an extra present to someone who has always been massively supportive of our work (I had to get it out of there!). Huge thanks to Original Content London for creating an awesome and very disturbing set.
We’re really excited by our pop up The Helpers experience which opens in London this Friday. As always delighted to be working with James Dance who has pulled out all the stops on a range of cocktails also inspired by the horror dvd from Koch Media.
The rest of the menu also offers hints as to the delights in store! To be honest I am not sure if I can stomach them despite the fact I know they will be utterly delicious. What do you think?
A mixture of Chambord, Lychee Liqueur, White Rum, Merlot, Cranberry Juice, Fresh Lime. Just watch out for the blood clots…
If you’re worried about making a mess, help yourself to one of our complimentary sick bags, just ignore the previous users efforts. Clotted cream rice pudding, maple syrup, Baileys, Vodka, Vanilla Ice Cream, Orange Zest, Nuts, dessicated coconut and a few unidentified chunks
One for the sadists with a 3ml dose of pleasure/pain in the form of Chilli Vodka, Lemon Juice and salt
Perfect for cleansing the palate and the crime scene. Pernod, Martini, Peach Water. Just don’t light up nearby…
Castrated chocolate testicles made by Conjurer’s Kitchen for Lawless >> Cakehead Loves PR client.
The last images we can share of The Helpers project open to the public on the 18th January – this cake from Conjurer’s Kitchen is absolutely delicious but do you have the stomach to find that out for yourself. If not we may just have one going spare…
High concept art cocktail maker James Dance is also serving up his gross looking but tasty drinks including the ‘Vomit’ cocktail shown below. He will try and blame me at some point for his twisted creations but I can assure you they are ALL his idea. To be fair it is a perfect fit with some of the cakes on offer though – believe me when I say the cakes we have shared so far are relatively tame!
We’re keeping all images for The Helpers pop up under wraps until the 17th January… except for this preview of an arm cake from Sarah Hardy. Now we just need some acid to drop into the wound as shown in the movie…
Koch Media UK, in conjunction with Miss Cakehead, will help put you out of your misery this January with a horror filled multi-sensory edible experience on the 18th & 19th January in London. Created to launch the release of horror film The Helpers on DVD, which is available from 21st January 2013, the free pop up features innovative and repulsive edible marvels, the likes of which have never been dared before… Can you stomach it? We won’t help you if you can’t… we really really wont.
The event is totally free to attend, as are all the cocktails and cake inside, but you’ll need to get your hands on one of the tickets for the 18th January. You’ll need to ‘like’ The Helpers movie Facebook page to be in for a chance of coming along. Trust me you don’t want to miss this one!!! More information coming very sooooooooooooooooon…
