Right now I am exhausted for all sorts of reasons I wont bore you with but so stunned by these BUILD YOUR OWN SKELETON MACARONS from Miss Insomnia Tulip I had to post right now. Best of all they even glow in the dark. She truly has REALLY changed the way macarons will be seen. Lest we forget her anatomical series of macarons too! I am so proud to be able to support her all I can.
Tasha Marks from Animal Mineral Vegetable has created this gorgeous tasting blood orange marmalade with vein detail AKA ‘Blood Sample’ which will be on sale at #EYHO. She’s also working on some other innovative products such as make your own DNA Strand and a unique variation on smelling salts but more of that soon…
So Twitter user @feralfanny is our latest EYHO baker – also a well known and published professional cake maker their true identity is to remain a closely hidden secret. However their treats can be shared…. check out these GROSS infected eye ball cupcakes, and old man’s nose cakes which they will be selling at the shop.
Eat Your Heart Out – Anatomical Cocktails
We are so excited at being able to have a bar in the Eat Your Heart Out space this year which leads me to this… A variety of disturbing medically inspired cocktails will be on sale at Miss Cakehead’s Eat Your Heart Out being held from the 26th – 29th October. Stool samples, stomach contents of a suicide victim and charred remains of a suicide bomber just some of the inspiration for the range of cocktails.
The cocktails are being created by James Dance of Loading, a Falmouth based internet café and games arcade and go way beyond anything seen before. For example the flavoured vodka in ‘Stomach Contents’ hasn’t been skimmed to purposefully ensure it will visibly contain the perfect teenage diet of chocolate pieces and skittles, the drink garnished with empty pill casings. A shot of absinthe on the top will be reflective of the green hue of stomach bile.
Other drinks on the menu include:
‘Charred Remains’ made from vodka and Jack Daniels with a crispy meat garnish. The ‘Stool Sample’ being a creamy drink with cocoa, strawberry syrup & fudge pieces used to give the medically correct consistency of a sample. ‘Fat’ will come with a solid fatty layer on top made from white chocolate melted and reset to create the effect and the ingredients of the ‘Sanitizer’ cocktail are designed to cleanse your palette. Finally the ‘Urine’ cocktail (below middle) will come in a sample bottle, and is also offered warm for those who are after an even more authentic experience and can stomach the added reality.
Spanning over 3 days from 26-28th October the cake shop will sell ONLY 100% anatomically or scientifically correct educational treats in a nod to it’s location at St Bart’s Pathology Museum in London. Alongside Miss Cakehead the museum’s, Carla Valentine, will be curating the cakes on sale drawing on her years of experience working in morgues, preserving anatomical human specimens and running the Shoreditch based Clandestine Cake Club to help deliver the world’s most unique cake shop, and an innovative form of science communication.
Commenting on the collaboration with Miss Cakehead James comments:
“For Eat Your Heart Out the real challenge was to try and make some drink that worked with the anatomical nature of the event, focusing on bodily fluids being too limiting. Instead I took a crime scene body outline as inspiration and tried to cover every area of the body. Of course cocktails such as the ‘Stool Sample’ and ‘Urine’ were so obvious I could not resist including them. As with the cakes each drink will be disgusting to look they will all taste amazing, horror being in peoples minds and the connections they make.”
Beyond delighted to say that Eat Your Heart Out 2 will be held in the St Barts Pathology Museum in London from October 26th – 28th. Working closely with the wonderful Carla Valentine, EYHO is going 100% anatomically correct & educational on your arse. If you want pretty labels on your cakes saying what flavor they are then don’t come… In their place will be some information on the very body part you are about to eat a delicious cake version of. They’ll also be the ultimate cake pathology lecture focusing on REAL conditions such as maple-syrup urine disease, icing sugar spleen and nutmeg liver. Lots more secrets yet to be revealed so be afraid, be very afraid…
Lung cancer cookies below are from Nevie Pie Cakes (and will be on sale in the space if I can persuade her)!
Cake makers wanting to take part then the full brief is here – the pathology theme is fairly open so please fell free to send me over any ideas you have. Eat Your Heart Out is a non for profit organization supporting the art of cake making all brand support welcome.
Now anyone for an icing sugar spleen?..
It’s beyond awesome that the guys at BULLETT magazine have been kind enough to have double page feature on “Miss Cakehead’ and Evil Cake Shop in their 2012 Summer Issue. It’s now online and you can read all my (very filthy) answers here. Thanks so much to Nathan Pask for photographing the cake and Natasha Collins for making it. I especially love the cookie she made based on the press photography from 2010.

The cake design came from the really clever (but tricky) questions the magazine asked me, my answers to which were the basis for the cake ingredients and design. The ‘white stuff’ was not my idea…
As many of you already know I love creating some gross things for the Ministry of Stories and their Hoxton Street Monster Supplies events. They are a non for profit organisation promoting literacy to children who do some incredible work. Past ‘hits’ have included scabs (cranberries), cockroaches (dates) and the now infamous unicorn pies (pork pies sprayed with lustre and covered in glitter). You can see some more of these over at Cakehead Loves.
This time Iced Over Cakes & Cake for Breakfast kindly stepped into the breach for me & created this amazing swap / pond theme for their latest event. I had a thoroughly miserable afternoon feeling poorly whilst they were doing the honours at the location (remotely assisted by Nevie Pie Cakes who made some scary fish cookies). Everyone generously gave their time for free I hasten to add – super talented really creative & kind bunch of foodies there
As you can see it looked amazing and much better than anything I could have carried off to be honest with you. Both Chris & Lisa are trained graphic designers and you can really tell as it all looks so darn good with great attention to detail. Special hat tip Chris for Breakfast for the inspired idea of using sausages to create pond reeds which formed part of the cool centrepiece. Hope he will send me some more close ups of this detail so I can add some more close up images of these.
Would make the most perfect dessert table for a boy’s birthday party don’t you think?..
